FAQs
Do you take my insurance?
At this time, I’ve chosen not to work with insurance companies. I currently only accept self-pay. This decision, while difficult, has ultimately allowed me to provide more holistic care without the limitations that often come with managed care.
It is not uncommon for insurance providers to dictate the length of treatment; type of therapy and they can even request access to private session notes. It is my personal belief that therapy should be guided by a client’s unique needs, not strict managed care guidelines.
That said, I am sensitive to the fact that cost is an important consideration when selecting a mental health provider. To support you, upon request I can provide monthly superbills that you are able to submit to your insurance provider for out-of-network reimbursement. Additionally, I do have a waitlist for clients with a sliding-scale fee.
Are these services confidential?
The therapy relationship is precious and worthy of protection, for that reason, our sessions will be 100% confidential. All sessions will take place on a secure, HIPAA compliant, telehealth platform. However, it is important to note that there are a few exceptions to to this. Under Washington State law confidentiality can be breached if you become a danger to yourself or others, additionally, instances of child abuse or neglect will be reported. While this is extremely rare, when it does happen, I report only the minimal information necessary.
How do I know if counseling for me?
I think there are five things to take into consideration when evaluating whether it might be a good time for counseling:
Your feelings and emotions are beginning to or have been impacting your daily life.
You have experience a significant life trauma or repeated instances of abuse, neglect or isolation.
You don’t know how to cope with your feelings or your coping methods are not working
You want to leave your relationship and don’t know how —- or you are seeing if and how it can be salvaged.
You are looking for a health emotional outlet to process lifestyle changes and stressors.
How do I book? Do I need a referral?
No referral needed! If you are interested in scheduling with me, I encourage you to reach out so we can schedule a free 15 minute consultation.
Do you write psychological evaluations and reports?
During the intake assessment, I gather comprehensive information about the client’s history, symptoms, and current functioning to inform a clinical diagnosis in accordance with established diagnostic criteria. This process helps guide the development of an individualized treatment plan tailored to the client’s specific needs. It is important to note that I do not conduct official psychological evaluations or provide diagnostic reports for legal proceedings, bariatric surgery, or similar purposes. My focus remains on delivering therapeutic support rather than formal forensic or medical assessments.
What if I don’t know what to say?
This is not an uncommon occurrence! I understand that for some it can feel foreign to hop on to a video call and open up about deeply held thoughts, feelings and emotions. There is no rush. I honor the time it takes for trust to grow organically and put no pressure on my clients to articulate their thoughts methodically. You throw it out, and I will do my best to pick it up.
Do you offer faith-based counseling?
I think that spirituality can be an incredibly helpful tool in facilitating emotional healing. I can incorporate Christian themes into sessions for clients who would find it beneficial. Ultimately, my approach is client directed which means my counseling door is open to people of all beliefs and practices even if they don’t align in this specific way. I believe that different beliefs do not have to hinder a healthy and productive therapy relationship.
